How Astra could help, day to day
Illustrative examples of what we’re designing Astra to do. Features are still being developed and tested — we’ll tell you exactly what’s available before anything goes in.
Help when they need it
A familiar voice assistant designed to respond to everyday requests and make home technology easier to use — by voice or a simple button.
Everyday routines
Support for daily routines, useful reminders and staying connected — without taking control away from the person living there.
Family reassurance
With the resident’s permission, selected home information could help family stay informed without constant checking.
Astra by HeartWell is optional home monitoring being developed to support everyday independence. It is not a medical device or a monitored emergency-response service, and it does not guarantee assistance. It doesn’t replace carers, health professionals or emergency services. In an emergency, call 000.
Free family guide: Helping Mum or Dad stay independent at home — without turning care into surveillance
A practical, plain-English guide to privacy, home technology and the conversations families can have before introducing cameras, sensors or AI assistance. Useful whether or not you ever talk to us.

They stay in their home
No move. No new house. Astra is designed to fit into the place they already know.
You worry less
Fewer “just checking” calls, and more real conversations.
Privacy comes first
Monitoring is optional. No cameras in toilets or bathrooms, ever. The person living there decides what’s shared.
Is this watching Mum in private spaces?
- Optional sensing only. Nothing is installed or switched on without the agreement of the person who lives there.
- No cameras in toilets or bathrooms. Ever. Planned help-call voice in bedrooms and bathrooms is intended to be audio-only, and only where the resident chooses it. A microphone on its own doesn’t mean help will arrive, so we’re designing and testing how a call for help is heard, who it goes to and how failures are reported before we make any promises.
- Bedrooms are private spaces. Where voice assistance is offered, microphones, speakers and sharing preferences will be explained and agreed with the resident. No bedroom cameras by default — the resident decides.
- Other areas are their choice. Additional sensing in areas such as hallways, living spaces or the front entry can be considered with the resident’s informed agreement and control over what is shared.
- Pausing and changing sharing. We’re designing Astra so the resident can pause or change what’s shared.
Their home. Their choice.
An enquiry from a family member does not authorise monitoring. Astra’s setup and information-sharing choices should be discussed with the person living in the home, wherever they can make those decisions themselves.
